Law Enforcement
The Resource Operations Call Center (ROCC) is the emergency call center for the BNSF Railway.
The ROCC acts as the primary urgent and emergency contact for BNSF employees, public emergency agencies, and concerned citizens. The ROCC efficiently organizes response to track obstructions, crimes against the railroad, derailments, grade crossing accidents, hazardous materials incidents and other emergencies.
The ROCC is staffed by certified police officers and dispatchers who provide unique police and security solutions. The ROCC is similar to that of a Police Dispatch Center. The ROCC answers calls twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week at 1-800-832-5452. The ROCC coordinates for a BNSF Special Agent or local law enforcement officer to respond to the needed location.
When making a report of something suspicious, a trespasser, security concern or other concern Special Agents request accurate and good descriptions of what is being reported.
Across the BNSF system there are officers who are out patrolling to ensure the safety and security of employees, facilities and infrastructure. So the most effective and easiest method to reach an officer is to call 1-800-832-5452.
Nothing is too small to report
Security has become everyone’s business. Because of heightened security status, Americans are being asked to be the eyes and ears for law enforcement officers.
Employees and concerned citizens alike call in to make many reports, from track obstructions, trespassers, stalled vehicles on the tracks and even possible mechanical issues with moving trains.
All reports come in from the 28 States and two Canadian Providences where BNSF Railway has 32,000 miles of right-of-way. Sometimes we will call upon local law enforcement agencies for their assistance
In partnership with local police BNSF can have a major impact on preventing vandalism, trespassing, and other criminal acts committed on trains and railroad infrastructure.
We are part of your community
BNSF and employees are part of your community. BNSF transports the products you depend on every day, such as food, building materials and all the items you find on store shelves. The interaction with the community provides BNSF police officers with valuable information, while at the same time builds relationships.
BNSF Police Officers also work with local residents and local Law Enforcement Agencies to reduce criminal activity. In your community you are the key to the continued safe and secure movement of global commerce passing through on BNSF trains.
A BNSF Railway sponsored program, Citizens for Rail Security, is a community awareness program designed to allow concerned citizens to participate in protecting the railroad infrastructure by making reports to the ROCC or BNSF police officers. We asked them to be alert for any suspicious or out of the ordinary activities or circumstances.
Working together can make an impact on public safety and reduction of crimes on or around railroad property. Your involvement in identifying and investigating suspicious, unusual or criminal activity on railroad property is vital to your community.
When a person is committing a crime on rail property it is affects the safety and security of the citizens in your area.
No trespassing
It is unlawful for anyone to enter or remain on railroad property without the consent of the owner. Not only is it dangerous, but walking on any railroad property is also against the law. Any person who crosses the tracks while the gates are down or even walks between the tracks is trespassing. Most trespassing deaths and injuries occur in or near major metropolitan areas or areas where significant railroad activity occurs, such as rail yards.
Police officers can prevent loss of life and catastrophic derailments by enforcing grade crossing laws. By monitoring crossings and enforcing grade crossing laws you play a big part in preventing death and injury.
The Railroad warns everyone to stay off the tracks and property by placing “No Trespassing” signs along railroad property.
Railroad police will provide written authorization to community police enabling them to enforce trespassing statutes on railway property.
Preventing terrorism
As you go about your daily patrol routine, you too can do your part in the prevention of any terrorist attack. When you receive a report of any out of the ordinary events or incident, you investigate it further.
If on Railroad property, you too can investigate it further and contact the ROCC for a railroad police officer in the area for assistance.
Every person can do their part in the prevention of any terrorist attack. Reporting out of the ordinary events or incidents so that a police officer can further investigate or look into the matter will determine if an act of terrorism could have been prevented.
Be on the lookout for activities such as unusual conduct in your neighborhood around railroad tracks and rail yards. Report and investigate suspicious packages, luggage or mail abandoned at railroad stations and along railroad tracks.
Everybody watching to control crime
Everyone on a daily basis is watching to control or prevent crime whether they know it or not. It is instinctive to react to something that is not normal or out of place. If you are not watching, Terrorist and criminals are surely watching.
Working together everyone’s efforts will result in saved lives and property protected and enhanced relationships with the communities that surround BNSF.
